Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to experience many “firsts” in the game, but my most recent experience was especially memorable: attending Italy’s first Mega-Event, Geocaching Made in Italy! (GCBCRTC).
From the moment I arrived in the Castronno area outside Milan, it was clear that the organizing team had created something special. Throughout the event-packed weekend, they demonstrated their passion for geocaching and the beauty, hospitality and food that Italy is famous for.
One of the best parts of any geocaching event is the people, and this weekend was no exception. I had the opportunity to reconnect with friends I met through gaming as well as meet so many great geocachers for the first time. It’s a reminder of how this hobby brings together people from different countries, languages, and cultures.
The festivities kick off Friday night with Aperitivo Made in Italy! (GCBKD2R), held in a stunning setting along the shores of Lake Varese. As the sun sets over the water, geocachers gather to share stories, laughs and plans for the weekend ahead. Everywhere I looked, there were smiling faces and joyful reunions.
Saturday marks the historic center of the weekend: the first Mega-Event in Italy! Despite the warm temperatures, around a thousand geocachers came to the event site to be a part of this achievement. There’s always something going on, whether it’s exploring Adventures, searching for creative traditional caches featuring Signal the Frog, or participating in contests designed to test geocaching skills—and sometimes completely unrelated skills.
One of my favorite memories is taking part in a challenge that involved running as fast as possible while carrying two boxes of pizza along a fixed track. Let me put my years of soccer experience to the test in the hope of winning a prize. I didn’t win either competition, but that doesn’t matter. Activities filled with laughter, friendly competition, and shared fun make geocaching events so memorable.
But the celebrations weren’t over after the Mega-Event. The next day, we helped clean up some of the geocaching game boards during CITO Made in Italy! (GCBKZV7). The weekend ended with one final treat—Pizzata Made in Italy! (GCBKZVG)—where pizza, friendship, and lots of stories make for the perfect farewell.
Looking back, what stands out most is the warmth and generosity of the organizing team. They made me, my fellow Lackeys, and geocachers from all over the world feel very welcome. Their dedication and hard work created an unforgettable experience and a historic milestone for geocaching in Italy. I am so grateful to have been a part of it.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
